I’m going to start off this post with saying something that might be controversial. I hate the Twilight series. I think they’re awful books with bad characters and a rubbish plot line. I have read extensively and these are in my all-time bottom books. I don’t even like the films. I think they are equally as terrible.
So I was really surprised when I watched the film, the Host with Saroise Ronan (who I love by the way!) and realised it based on a book by Stephanie Meyer. I really loved this film. It is my go to film on a Sunday when I want to curl up and watch a good movie. So I decided to give the book a go and I am so glad I did. This book is amazing.
The story starts in a world where the human race has been taken over by aliens called souls who are placed within a human body and take it over. They have assimilated with the whole world, making it a better place free of war, poverty and sickness. The story follows a girl called Melanie, one of the last humans who is captures and taken over by a soul called Wanderer. The soul was placed inside her to gain information about other humans in the area. But Melanie is a fighter and doesn’t give in the invasion of her mind and body. What follows is a journey for both Wanderer and Melanie as they try to get back home to Melanie’s brother Jamie and boyfriend Jared. Wanderer has lived on many worlds, but never found home, and through Melanie and the human settlement she discovers truths about herself, her race and her home.
Stephanie Meyer builds a rich and believable world, with wonderful characters and a story you won’t be able to put down. The alien race, the souls, have a deep and opulent history that is revealed through Wanderer in an amazing story. I really don’t want to say too much because I want you to read the story rather than a synopsis on here. It’s an adventure. It’s a love story. It’s a drama. It’s a beautifully spun tale of an alternate future and I highly recommend you read it.
