Now, I don’t know about you but I love Ramen.
I don’t mean instant Ramen, I mean proper Japanese Ramen.
I make Ramen at home as a treat using a recipe I found online. I often do it with homemade steamed buns on the side. Yummy. But this time I went to a Ramen restaurant to try out their take on this delicious dish, and oh wow. It was amazing.
Shoryu Ramen is in Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester city centre. The restaurant itself is a small unit facing the gardens and fountains. There are several different types of tables from normal dining tables, high tables and a row facing the gardens so you can watch the world go by.
My husband and I took advantage of Shoryu’s Monday offer of 2 for 1 on their buns in order to try as many as possible. These are steamed buns with a filing. I chose Char Siu barbecue pork belly and soy marinated chicken karaage.
Oh my goodness these buns were so tasty. The dough was light and sweet. The fillings were just mouth-watering. I can highly recommend these as a side dish. Although we had two each and they was too much!
For mains I had the Ramen. They do have other choices but I went specifically for the Ramen.
I chose the Kotteri Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen which came a slightly thicker broth and char sui barbecue pork.
The pork was some of the best I have ever had. Next time I’m ordering an extra portion of pork! The broth was really tasty and flavourful, the vegetables delicious and the egg just the way I like it, a little runny in the middle.
Everything about this place was just what I wanted. The atmosphere was fantastic, the service attentive and the food amazing.
I will be returning to Shoryu Ramen!
