I was first diagnosed with rosacea back in 2012, the year before my wedding. At first I thought it was a rash on my face because it looked very red and blotchy, but after a couple of visits to the GP it was confirmed as rosacea. After my diagnosis I went home and did some reading up about the condition and found that I fit a lot of symptoms. One of the early symptoms of rosacea is blushing. I used to blush all the time. I could be sat on a bus, walking down the street or talking to someone and I would it. My cheeks would start to get hot and I would know I was bright red from blushing. At the time I didn’t know this was an early symptom of rosacea. Since my rosacea has blossomed fully I have actually stopped blushing all the time – so every cloud has a silver lining as they say!
My version of rosacea is redness in the cheeks, chin, side of face and forehead area. I have spots that very from small red dots on my cheeks to large acne type spots. At first I was put on antibiotics and as my wedding drew closer I splashed out on some expensive Clinique skincare items. My rosacea seemed to improve and with a fantastic make-up artist I made it through my wedding day. But then slowly things started to get worse, my skin had regular flare ups and I couldn’t afford to keep up with the Clinique skin care items. I then spent many years reading up and experimenting with different skin care. I am also luckily that I was accepted for laser treatment on the NHS. So far I have had three sessions, which do seem to have improved the redness of my skin.
Over Christmas I watched a video on youtube about Lush products for rosacea and I read some articles from pinterest that drove me to the shop. I went in with certain products in mind and after speaking to the customer service assistant confirmed my choices. Over the past few weeks I have noticed an improvement in my skin. The redness has greatly reduced, the spots are considerably less and the overall texture looks much better. I still have flare ups, but they are something I am going to have to deal with as part of my skin condition. But the improvement has been wonderful. The product I have been using are:
- Cleanser: Angels on Bare Skin (morning)
- Cleaner: 9 to 5 (evening)
- Tone: Eau Roma Water
- Moisturisers: Cosmetic Lad
I also use a body shop product Tea Tree Daily Anti-Imperfection Daily Treatment as well as the above lush products. I use tea tree because I read an article regarding demodex mites as a possible cause for rosacea or a contributing factor. These mites live on everyone’s skin, but in a study they found people with rosacea had significantly more mites. Tea Tree oil kills demodex mites, so I try to use one product with tea tree and I do notice a difference in the redness if I stop using it.
Using this combination of products does seem to be having a significant effect on my skin and I hope it continues to get better!
