I saw a voucher on Groupon for a deal at the Hands of Buddha in Timperley for 3 treatments for £28 and decided to give it go and see what the place was like. I decided to book for nails, a back and shoulder massage and a facial. I had a half day from work to get my hair and I thought, perfect! I’ll do both in one afternoon and have a proper pampering day, something I never do.
It didn’t start out well when on the metro back from haircut someone collapsed after taking spice and I was stuck for about 45 minutes. So I was very stressed when I arrived!! I was hoping for a wonderful, relaxing experience to wash away the stresses of the day. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I really really wanted to like this place. It’s close by to my house and not crazy expensive without the Groupon voucher. But it just did not live up to any expectations at all and I wouldn’t go back.
I had a gel manicure first and I picked a lovely dark pink colour with some glitter in. I didn’t really look at my nails until after I had left but when I did they were awful. The polish was patchy and looked so bad and one of them chipped in about 20 minutes on my way home. I do a better job with normal nail varnish at home and I’m rubbish at nails. They just looked shocking. I had a busy weekend with friends coming to stay so I had to paint over them immediately so they didn’t look so bad.
Then we came to the massage, which was more like a back rub. There was no pressure and no technique at all. I don’t really know what else to say apart from it was a back rub not a massage! I really needed a good massage, my shoulders were tense and my back was sore from being stuck on metro but no, I got a back rub. May be some people will say I should have asked her to do more pressure but honestly after a rubbish couple of hours I just was fed up at this point!
Finally, was the facial. My skin actually felt really bad afterwards. The cleanse hadn’t removed all my make up, and I don’t wear a lot, so everything else just made my skin feel a bit dirty. The beautician didn’t ask me anything about my skin or explain what any of the products were. When I got home I used my normal cleanser to wipe my face and make up came off. My face felt better after I’d done a cleanse, tone and moisturise at home.
Now, I’ve only had like 2 other massages before and one facial but they were all really good and I felt so relaxed afterwards. This whole thing felt like a complete waste of time and money, even with the voucher. I basically spent £28 for a bad manicure, back run and bad facial. I will be trying other places and hopefully I’ll have more success because this place is a definite nope!
