My husband suggested I try the book City of Bones after we watched the film on netflix. He thought that the books might be really good because there was more detail they could put in a book. After I picked up this baby at the Library I can say he wasn’t wrong!
I reallt enjoyed this book. I’m a fan of the young adult genre in general and always love a bit of supernatural or fantasy so this ticked all the boxes!
The book is different to the film in some areas. It also allows for way more character development and explaination that you just can’t translate.
The main character Clary is a feisty young woman who is trying to understand her own past. Her mother is missing. Her lifelong family friend seems to have deserted her and she’s staying with Shadowhunters who fight demons she can now see. That’s all a bit much to take in!
I really like Clary as a main character. I also think the supporting characters are so much better in the book. There’s a depth to them that doesn’t translate on screen.
Overall a really good start to a young adult fantasy series. I’m looking forward to finishing the rest of the books!
