As a makeup lover and a bargain lover I am always on the lookout for good affordable makeup. This often leads me to try new brands and products that are on the budget level. One that has not failed to disappoint is Essence. Available from Wilkinsons this brand offers great make up at great prices.
What I really like about essence is that the products are a good quality despite the low price tag. They don’t feel cheap at all. I haven’t tried every product they offer. Of the ones I have tried these are my top 6 products.
- Camouflage 2in1 make-up & concealer Foundation – £3.80
I have tried a lot of different foundations from high end to budget brands. My personal skin concerns are redness and uneven skin tone including breakouts. I like a full coverage foundation but hate cakeyness. I want to feel like I’m not wearing make-up.
Not an easy find! But this foundation is one of the best I have ever used in that respect.
The consistency is on the thicker side and a little certainly goes a long way. I use the shade 10 Ivory Beige and this matches my skin colour really well. I will say that there are limited colour choices. So if you’re lucky enough to match I would definitely recommend giving it a go!
This foundation gives really good coverage. It blends extremely easily. Once it’s on, it feels like you aren’t wearing any make up. Which is exactly what I’m looking for!
It evens out my skin tone and makes my skin look smooth and even. I do use a primer underneath because I have pores the size of pot holes. But I would image it’s a good product even without. It lasts all day and doesn’t separate even thought I have oily skin.
- Mattifying compact powder, £2
I usually set the foundation with this pressed powder. The shade I use is 11 Pastel Beige. Again the colour choice isn’t that varied. But luckily this matches my skin colour and the foundation.
It comes in a little plastic case and my one quibble is that I always break the hinges on the lid. I can still click the lid into place but within a few days I have normally broken it!
This powder goes on really well. I have used a brush and a powder puff. It sets my make up without look cakey or unnatural.
- Long lasting eye pencil, £1.50
I have two colours of this pencil – 01 Black Fever and 02 Hot Chocolate.
I really like this eye liner. It glides on. No pulling on my eye lid or patchy application. The colour is really pigmented so looks amazing and lasts all day and night.
I normally use the brown, 02 Hot Chocolate, every day and it is my favourite eye liner ever.
It comes in a variety of other shades so there is sure to be a colour for everyone.
- Long lasting lipstick, £2.30
I am a lipstick lover for whenever I head out. I like creamy lipsticks that don’t dry out my lips but whose colour really pop. This definitely ticks those boxes!
The lipsticks come in a good range of colours. They go on really nicely and last a good time.
The shade I’m loving at the moment is 07 Natural Beauty. It’s a gorgeous natural, pinky colour that makes my lips look lovely. I’m looking forward to trying out other shades!
- Lash Princess Volume Mascara, £3.30
I have quite long lashes naturally but what I lack is volume. I have tried a lot of different mascaras from many different brands. Often I find that volumising equals clumpy but not this one.
This mascara applies nicely, doesn’t clump and can take multiple layers. Like with all the products in this range it also lasts for ages.
I use this mascara every day and my current tube has lasts a few months.
They also do a false lash effect version of this mascara that I want to try. But I definitely recommend the volume version!
- The Gel Nail Polish, £1.60
The final product that I love from the essence brand is their gel nail polish.
These nail polishes come in a lot of colours. They are a high shine gel effect nail polish. The consistency is quite thick so you have to be careful when applying not to use too much. Several thin coats is the best way to go with these.
The colours are good, the polish lasts quite a while without chipping and they are a lovely gel effect. A definite recommend product!
