On a spur of the moment whim I ordered a Birch Box at the end of August.
I see these style of beauty box all over the internet and I was eager to try one. At £10 a month I think Birch Box is really reasonable.
Firstly I will say their customer service is excellent. I thought I was supposed to get a free gift with my first box and it didn’t arrive. Turns out I was supposed to enter a code at check out in order to get this! When I contacted customer services they explained this to me but said they’d send it out anyway. – So nice!
My first box contained:
1. Spectrum Collections full sized make up brush in Bomb shell
This make up brush is so soft and I adore the colour. My bedroom is grey, copper and pink so it matches perfectly with the décor.
This is the A05 brush so it’s slightly angled. Overall it’s a really good brush for bronzer or contouring. I love it!
2. LOC eyeshadow stick in Rock Steady
This eyeshadow stick is nice and creamy. It applies really nicely, doesn’t tug on my eye lid at all.
The colour is really versatile medium-dark brow. The instructions say to blend with your fingertips. This blended out ok. I haven’t tried it yet going out for the day so I can’t say how long it lasts. Overall, a great colour and nice consistency.
3. Apres Beach Waves & Shine Spray
This spray is supposed give you hair a textured and tousled looked with using salt spray. It also contains wheat protein and sunflower seeds oil to soften and add shine.
I have naturally curly/wavy hair so I wasn’t sure what to expect from this. For me this made my hair look nice and shiny. It felt nice and soft. I can’t really say whether the curls were more defined but my hair looked really pretty.
4. Merci Handy Antibacterial Hand Cleansing Gel
This hand gel comes in a really handy small bottle. It has a scent over the smell that most antibacterial gels have, but you can still smell it.
This costs £2.90 according the Birchbox leaflet provided with the box. I would say that you can buy cheaper antibacterial gel, and in a larger size. You can still smell the chemically smell under the scent. So for me this is just a standard gel. It does what it says on the tin!
5. Sebamed Clear Mattifying Cream
This cream says it helps to control sebum production for oily skin. I have combination skin so I was really excited to see this product in my box.
This is a really nice cream. It’s very light and absorbs into the skin instantly. It does make my skin feel very nice and smooth. It will have to wait and see if it improves my skin condition.
My second box contained:
1. Polaar IcyMagic Instant Eye Contour Energiser
A roll on eye cream to brightening and rejuvenate your under eye area.
This one is a no from me. May be I’m doing it wrong but this tugs on my skin when I apply the product. The product feels very sticky and tacky. I really don’t like the feeling of it on my skin.
2. Dr PawPAw Original Clear Balm
A multi-purpose beauty balm that you can use as a lip balm, moisturiser or anything else that needs moisture!
This is a lovely lip balm. It is glossy without being sticky. I tried it on my hands at the cuticles and it absorbed quickly and again wasn’t sticky.
I will definitely put this in my handbag as I feel it will be really useful in lots of situations.
3. Manna Kadar 3 in 1 Blush, Highlighter and Eyeshadow
This product is a lovely shimmery bronze colour that looks lovely and warm on my skin tone. I would say this is more a shimmer bronzer than blush.
I haven’t tried it as an eyeshadow but as a highlight I would definitely re-use it. It isn’t highly pigmented so I would probably use it as a shimmer colour on my eyes but nothing more.
4. Arrow BOOST colour enhancing lip balm
This is a lovely smooth lip balm that enhances your natural colour.
This is a lovely lip balm, nice and smooth with a little gloss look. It makes my lips looks slightly pinker but it in a really lovely way.
Another one I will be keeping in my hand bag.
5. Beauty Protector – Protect and De-tangle spray
As a curly girl I am always on the lookout for anything that helps with fizz and detangling.
This spray states that is it a leave in condition, detangles, minimizes frizz, protects colour and add shine to all hairs types.
I have only used this once, along with some new John Frieda products, so I can’t give this all the credit! However, this spray smelt really nice and my hair felt really soft. The usual halo of frizz I have was calmer than normal.
I will definitely keep using this spray!
Overall I think both of these boxes contained a really good variety of products. Some I like, some I don’t, but that’s the nature of these boxes.
I really enjoy trying all the new products. The boxes are absolutely gorgeous – I love them.
I think the price of £10 per month plus £2.95 postage is really reasonable for the products you receive. There’s always at least one full sized products. The sample sizes are good sizes and I prefer them as I’m not wasting a product when I don’t like it.
So far I am loving Birchbox and I can’t wait to reveal what it is my October box!
